AGROINFO – In the afternoon of 24 March, 2008, in the Headquater of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) had a meeting with the working mission headed by the Minister – Chairman of Laos’ Governmental Office.
The Minister – Chairman of Laos’ Governmental Office (LGO) was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Laos’ Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of some localities having successful economic operations in Laos and the officer representing for Laos’ Economics and Commerce in Vietnam. Leaders of International Cooperation Department (ICD), IPSARD and subordinated institutions of MARD received the Laos’ working mission on behalf of Vietnamese side.
At the meeting, the Minister – Chairman of LGO and his mission members expressed their strong interest and wishes to learn experiences and lessons of Vietnam in developing agricultural and rural development policies. He said that in the context where agriculture and rural continue to play a key role for both Vietnam and Laos, to hold exchange and share experiences in management and policy making between the two governments and two ministries become necessary, especially for Laos.
On behalf of Vietnamese side, Dr. and director of IPSARD Dang Kim Son briefed the mission the experiences recorded by Vietnam in stratetry and policy making for agriculture and rural development since the start of the reform (Doi Moi) program, citing the successes as well as constraints and challenges encountered by Vietnamese agriculture and a number of upcoming policy solutions of MARD and Government of Vietnam.
In an openess, straight away and scientific manner, the two sides exchanged and discussed extensively the matters relating to management and policy making of the two governments and ministries. Laos’s working mission highly appreciated and sincerely thanked for the useful information provided by IPSARD.
The operation of LGO with MARD and IPSARD is part of the overall cooperation program between the two governments and two ministries. Currently, IPSARD of Vietnam is providing assistance to establishing an Institute of Policy and Strategy for Laos’ Ministry of Agriculture.
