On 3 January, 2008, the government enacted Decree 01 regulating functions, tasks and organizational structure of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) after it was merged with Ministry of Fishery (MF). According to this Decree, MARD shall be responsible for managing six major areas and added with a number of new departments.
MARD will carry out the management of six major areas: agriculture, forestry, salt production, fishery, irrigation and rural development at the national level. In addition, about 30 different professional tasks will also be carried out by MARD.
The Decree regulates the organizational structure of MARD that consists of 27 units, some of which were established recently and for the first time, such as Processing, Agro forestry Commerce and Salt Production Department; Aquaculture Production Department; Cooperative Economics and Rural Development Department; Agro forestry and Fishery Quality Control Department; Science, Technology and Environment Department; and National Center for Agricultural and Fishery Extension.
