In the morning of 21/7/2008, representative of Auburn University, America, met with Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD). The meeting ended successfully opening up a good opportunity for cooperation between the two sides.
On the side of IPSARD, Dr. Duong Ngoc Thi, deputy director, and leaders of divisions of science and international cooperation and agricultural policy and strategy and AGROINFOR received the delegation of Auburn Agricultural University.
Professor Curtis M. Jolly, Head of Agricultural Economics and Rural Society Committee of Auburn Agricultural University introduced function, tasks and areas of operation of the University. The strength of Auburn can be summarized in two points (i) the closed and systematic combination between applied economic research in agro-forestry, fishery, market and prices with agro-forestry extension and training which is providing high quality services for farmers in the region; and (ii) the strong and effective communication tools which provide farmers with high quality new letters, electronic extension magazines.
The information system on farm products of Auburn covers a wide range of livestock products such as beef, animal meat which includes rabbit and goat and other products relating to livestock sector such as maize, soybean, cotton etc.
Auburn university has established a relationship with many research institutes and universities in and outside the United States such as Arkansas university, FAO, Agro-forestry University in Ho Chi Minh city and leading specialists in many areas of concern.
Professor Curtis M. Jolly expressed his hope that in the near future, Auburn and IPSARD will establish cooperation in such fields as (i) communication and publication; (ii) research results and data sharing; (iii) receiving and providing fellowships for doctoral and post-graduate training with priority given to female; (iv) establishing a group of specialists to make cooperation in areas of research – communication – agro-forestry extension …
Deputy director of IPSARD, Dr. Duong Ngoc Thi shared with and expressed his agreement to proposals made by Auburn and committed that IPSARD will prepare an Aide Mermore on cooperation between IPSARD and Auburn based on the results of discussion between the two sides.
