AGROINFO – Ariving in Hanoi on Sunday, March 2nd 2008, participants in the 10-day Illinois Farm Bureau Vietnam market study tour had a meeting with IPSARD’s staff right on March, 3rd 2008 in the hope of gaining an overall view of rural development in Vietnam.

Vietnam is a growing potiential market for U.S. food and agricultural products. The selection of Vietnam for the 8th Market Study Tour was made by IFB following multiple years of surveys of at-large producers as well as former and potential study tour participants. This year, they come to Vietnam with the slogan “The Vietnam Market: Great Potential, Great Friends”.
Twenty-three people are participating in the 10-day Illinois Farm Bureau Vietnam market study tour. Participants include 14 IFB members, IFB board members J.C. Pool and Scott Halpin, and staff members of Illinois, Iowa, Ohio and Indiana Farm Bureaus. The proposed route of travel is Hanoi – Da Nang – and Ho Chi Minh City areas. Along with meeting with Vietnamese ministry staff, the group will pay visits to ports, feed mills, aquaculture, hog farms and retails.
In the meeting, Dr. Dang Kim Son – Director as well as other IPSARD’s staffs provided an overall view of rural development in Vietnam. IFB delegates showed their interest in some issues like impacts of global warming on Vietnamese agriculture and the government’s achivements in poverty eradication as well as upgrading education level in the rural areas.
IFB delegates acknowledge and highly appreciate the information provided by IPSARD’s staffs. Let’s hope that this study tour will enhance understanding and relationship building between Vietnam and the U.S. market and people.
