- Viet Nams export earnings from farm and forestry products in the past 11 months rose 22.5 percent year-on-year to 6.6 billion USD, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Timber brought in the largest export value of 1.7 billion USD, followed by rice, 1.3 billion USD; and rubber, 1.2 billion USD.
Though rice raked in high earnings, rice exporters in the reviewed period were struggling against short supply as the crop was affected by pests and disease. Accordingly, the Government decided to halt rice export since mid-November, except for the contracts that had already been signed.
It was forecast that rubber would surpass rice in terms of earnings to rank second in the list of exported farm products due to increasing prices of rubber in the world market.
In the reviewed period, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported a soar in food imports.
Imports of vegetable oil and animal fat reached 219 million USD (up 22.6 percent), milk and dairy products, 296 million USD (up 4.8 percent), and sugar, 120,000 tonnes (up 72 percent).
Around 2.8 million tonnes of fertilisers and pesticides worth 264 million USD were imported during the period
