Although there is good information on demand from traditional custmomers such as The Philippines and Cuba, Vietnam’s rice prices still continue to drop following the world trend. Moreover, export enterprises actively reduce the prices to draw customers, which helps them promptly withdraw capital to pay bank’s debt. Price for 5% broken rice reaches 523 USD per ton, 3 USD per ton lower than last week. At 522 USD per ton, prices for 10% and 15% broken rice are down 24 USD per ton compared to last week. Particularly, price for 25% broken rice only reaches 406 USD per ton, a sharp decrease of 19 USD per ton against last week.
In September 2008, 400,000 tons of rice are exported nationwide, higher than estimation of 373,000 tons of rice. In additon, rice importers from Vietnam such as The Philippines, Cuba and Angola purchased 25,600 tons which is worth 19.4 million USD ; Russia purchases 8000 tons, worth 660 USD per ton. Thus, up to 26th September 2008, total amount of Vietnam’s rice were exported, are 3,435,002 tons, at 2.09 billion USD of turn-over.

Speed up to purchase summer-autumn rice
In 29th September, Governor of the State Bank issued Document No. 8821/NHNN-TD to require State Commercial Bank and Vietcombank to ensure enough capital for borrowing with interest from food enterprises, which aims at purchasing 400,000 tons of rice for production according to contract.
