AGROINFO – In the afternoon of 07/08/2008, leaders of IPSARD met with a delegation of IFPRI headed by Mr. Joachum von Braun, general director and Mr. Fan Shanggen who works in Division of Development Strategy and Governance.
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is among 15 institutions which receive supports from the International Agricultural Research Advising Group – an alliance comprising 64 governments, private funds and organizations worldwide. At the meeting, director and Dr. Dang Kim Son introduced the delegation the function, tasks, organizational structure, personnel and activities of IPSARD which is currently acting as an advisory body for MARD. On behalf of IFPRI, Mr. Joachum von Braun briefed the leaders of IPSARD the organizational structure and research activities being carried out by IFPRI with an aim to fulfill the objectives of social equality, food security and poverty alleviation.
With the initial information obtained, the two sides expressed their satisfaction on the similarity in organizational structure as well as the targets and philosophy in running activities. In the meeting, IFPRI expressed their wishes of having close collaboration with IPSARD in different fields. Mr. Joachum von Braun also presented to participants the interest of IFPRI on Vietnam – a country which is shifting from planning to market economy and attaining good development thanks largely to the effective revision of its policies.


On this occasion, the two institutes exchanged a number of research results and the latest publications. Director Dang Kim Son offered Mr. Joachum von Braun three books entitled: “Vietnam’s Agriculture Report on Developments in 2007 and Prospects for 2008”, “Vietnam’s Rice yearbook for 2007 and perspective on 2008”, "Special report on rice market in the first half of 2008 and upcoming prospects " (developed by AGROINFOR) and “Vietnam’s Agricultural Atlas” (developed by CAP).
The meeting opened up many opportunities for establishing cooperation between the two institutes in the field of research, training and communication...
